In retrospect, buying my tickets to Clermont-Ferrand and Saint Flour wasn't that bad. I got a better price than I expected, and it left me with four hours to spend walking around Paris. So, I was hungry and looked for a cafe. I'd heard that if you didn't eat on the main streets at a recognizable "landmark" restaurant, you were bound to save some money. I told this to a couple of the students here who live in Paris and they laughed at me. You can't save money in Paris, they said, you just get used to spending too much.
Well, this is what I got:

Now, some of you will say. Oh, Max, that's just a toasted ham sandwich. How much did you pay for that? The answer: 6,30 Euro. I know, I know, a little expensive. But think of it this way -- I ate it
in Paris. Surely, the experience alone is worth the cost. And, it came with a salad. Was that on the menu? No. The waiter just went ahead and asked if I wanted a salad. I said, in flawless french, "Oue," with the 'e' instead of the 'i' to seem blase about this free food I was getting. He clearly detected my innate sensibility
Parisienne and rewarded me with salad. After washing down my salad with a 3,50 Euro glass of Perrier, I headed off to the Jardin des Plantes.
The Jardin des Plantes is very pretty. Here's a picture to prove it. I centered it and everything:

And here's three more pictures, because it really was quite pretty.

Oh, did I mention my train didn't show up?
